Am I making the best use of Email?

I am sure you are all familiar with email but are you making the best use of it? email pic

If you are running a company and your email address is something like john.brown@hotmail.com it doesn't look very professional. Its much better to have something like john@mywebsite.com.

Even if you don't yet have a web site, and have no plans to get one, it is very cheap to reserve a web address such as www.mywebsite.com. You can then have an email address such as john@mywebsite.com, and if you do decide to have a web site in the future you already have the name reserved. It can be set up so that all email sent to john@mywebsite.com is re-directed to john.brown@btinternet.com, or to any other email address, and any replies sent from that email address look as if they have come from john@mywebsite.com.

If you have multiple employees each can have their.name@mywebsite.com re-directed to their email address and set up in the same way. There are also facilities for auto responders to confirm that your clients' email has been received and will be answered shortly.

I recommend using Microsoft Outlook as an email client as it is far more powerful than Outlook Express and is far more configurable. For example you can automatically put all emails from a certain person into a certain folder, it has very powerful search facilities, it combines very well with your address book and the later versions have very good security. If you are plagued by spam I know of a very good free spam filter you can install and you can train its behaviour by telling it which emails you want and which are spam. Priceless!
